Following the powerful debut of Obodo Oyinbo: The Million Mile Experience, photographer Izu Okwuobasi returns with the second chapter of his visual journey: Obodom: The Journey Home.
Curated and produced by Seju Alero Mike (SAM), founder of Osengwa, “Obodom: The Journey Home” is a post-immigration reflection that explores the emotional terrain of migration, identity, and return. Through a two-day immersive exhibition, Izu documents the realities of life between two worlds; America and Nigeria, inviting audiences into an intimate narrative of longing, discovery, and belonging.
The exhibition unfolds in three parts:
Photography: A striking collection of portraits and landscapes from the U.S. and Nigeria, revealing the tension between distance and home.
Sculpture: Physical forms that represent the weight and shape of this journey.
Documentary Film: A screening that captures Izu’s journey and the quiet questions that live in the heart of every migrant.
At its core, Obodom is an inquiry: To Japa or not? Through vivid imagery and layered storytelling, the project asks what is gained and what is lost in the pursuit of the “American dream.”
