Premiering April 23rd as part of the Harvard Divinity School’s Evolution of Spirituality Conference. This solo showcase by visual artist Data Oruwari offers an early glimpse into her forthcoming exhibition Echoes of the Nile through a virtual presentation of select works from a 44-piece oracle deck commissioned by Abusua Pa Publishing and inspired by the cosmic laws of Ma’at.
For thousands of years, the timeless Laws of Ma’at have served as a spiritual compass guiding ancient Kemet toward Truth, Balance, Reciprocity, Harmony, Order, Justice, and Propriety. ‘Echoes of the Nile’ is a visionary art project that reinterprets these timeless ancient cosmic laws through a contemporary Afro-mystical lens. By blending African traditional iconography with modern aesthetics, viewers are invited into a sacred journey of spiritual exploration and self-discovery. Grounded in decolonial thought, it reclaims African spiritual wisdom as a tool for personal and collective healing.
Created using black and gold ink on archival paper, each artwork reinterprets ancient Kemetic principles through delicate stippled linework—bridging ancestral wisdom with contemporary expression and inviting quiet moments of reflection, remembrance, and spiritual inquiry. Curated by Seju Alero Mike of OSENGWA.
