The project Sunbath at Sunset delves into the profound connection between humanity, nature, and the eternal cycle of life. Through sand and a serene sunset setting, it embodies how our environment and experiences shape us. The piece features a setting sun that symbolizes both the end of one day and the beginning of another, reminding us of the fleeting nature of existence and our place within an ever-evolving cycle. Basking in the diminishing sunlight serves as a meditative experience to ruminate on personal growth while acknowledging our interconnectedness with others. As a result, Sunbath at Sunset sparks awe by encouraging interaction with the enigmatic aspects of life along with fostering empathy among participants through appreciating natural wonders.
About the Artist
Godiva Omoruyi is a Nigerian artist (b. 1999, Lagos, Nigeria). He specializes in street, portrait, and fashion photography. His love for art began at a young age when he and his late brother drew superheroes and popular characters in a football comic. After his brother’s passing, he and his sister traveled to Ghana to complete their high school education with their Godfather. Upon returning to Nigeria in 2016, he attempted college, yet it did not work out.
In June 2017, Godiva enrolled in a 6-month skill-learning program at the Woman Development Center in Lagos, where he learned graphic design. During his IT at the institute, he discovered his love for photography and learned the basics of handling digital cameras from the Photography department students. After completing the graphic design course, Godiva pursued photography in 2018. He eventually started doing photography full-time in 2019.
Godiva’s photography aims to capture the essence of his subjects and convey their personality, emotions, and stories in a single image. He believes the best photographs evoke emotion, spark curiosity, and leave a lasting impression on the viewer. As an aspiring filmmaker, he hopes to expand his artistry and storytelling through the medium of filmmaking.
